Opinel No. 08 Classic – Satin 12c27 Sandvik Stainless Steel Trailing Point Blade – Varnished Beechwood Handle - Nail Nick Manual Folder w/ Virobloc Safety Ring Lock

Since 1890, Opinel has offered high-quality, simple, durable locking pocket knives that have been a staple of the classic outdoorsman pack for well over a century. Known as a pioneer in the knife manufacturing industry, Joseph Opinel began making knives when he was 18 in France, and to this day his designs have a lasting effect in the knife world. The same design has lasted for 100+ years, as the Opinel is just about as solid as they come. Favored by outdoorsmen for their sharpen-ability, as the Opinel classics come with high-carbon content blades, as well as 12c27 Sandvik Stainless Steel for their resistance to corrosion, dependability and reliability are what defines an Opinel knife. The larger-sized classic Opinels come with the patented Virobloc safety ring folder, which was originally invented in 1955 and refined to perfection until they were finally made available on these models in the early 2000’s. The Virobloc system allows for a simple turn of a non-stationary, rotating ferrule, to lock the blade in an open position. Sharp, safe, and rugged, Opinel knives have been around and widely-used for over a century for a reason. Simply put: you cannot go wrong with owning and using an Opinel knife.

The Sandvik 12c27 steel folding Opinel is often thought of as the go-to affordable pocket knife for camping, hunting, fishing, or anything else outdoors. The original model designed by Joseph Opinel himself, these locking folders are one of those things that everybody needs at least one of. Coming with a varnished Beechwood handle, with the same original shape and ergonomics that it has come with for over a century, these knives are incredibly gorgeous and resilient. Sustainable harvested in the Jura region, this Beechwood material, called “fayard” locally in France, provides “excellent mechanical strength.” Each handle is unique, reinforcing the fact that these knives are made from real wood, from real trees, in nature. In addition to this, the wood may expand and shrink with moisture levels, or change colors depending on how much it stays in the sun. Lightly put, you’re Opinel knife will be one of a kind, while still having the reliability that comes with owning one. The 12c27 Sandvik Stainless Steel main-line Opinels come in a variety of sizes, from the 3.25” No. 02, all the way up to the huge 19.75” No. 13. That being said, you’re bound to find an Opinel that fits perfectly in your hand and pocket.

To care for your Opinel, be sure not to immerse the knife completely in water, as this could lead to handle warping due to its true wooden handle. Hand wash only, and wipe your blade down, while avoiding running water over your Opinel steel blade. Wipe the blade dry before closing it up and storing it, and lubricate the blade with a food safe oil as often as necessary or possible.

This model classic Opinel we have to offer is the No. 08, is 7.75” overall when open and comes with the signature Virobloc locking mechanism. The blade is about 3.25” and is made of 12c27 Sandvik Stainless Steel. It is razor sharp. The varnished Beechwood handles are signature for Opinel, and are each unique with their grain pattern, 3.5” of wooden handle. Made in Savoie, France, as it always has been, and easy to open due to its small but prominent nail nick, this No. 06 high carbon is as solid as a non-pocket clipped pocket knife comes.
