Spyderco – the thumb hole company – has been around since the 70’s, and while they were originally known for their impressive and now widely-loved Tri-Angle Sharpmaker, the Golden, Colorado-based company now produces a wide range of unique and dependable knives that you’ll love to carry every day. Since their first folding knife, the C01 Worker in 1981, Spyderco has defined innovation in the knife industry, paving the way for new concepts with many of their models over the years. From using high-grade (and often hard to find on the mainstream market) materials, Spyderco is beloved by many. Many of their models have an odd design at first sight, but their differences are what make them such a powerful and reliable daily carry. Nearly every one of the Spyderco models that has come through Sawyer River has impressed us and met the checklist as an EDC knife. The US-based company produces high-grade pocket knives un the USA, Japan, Taiwan, Italy, and China, surely having a model that will fit both your style as well as your budget. The Stretch 2 is one of Spyderco’s longest spanning and most adored main-line knife models. The newest update, dubbed “Stretch 2 XL” gives this guy an 8% size increase without making it much heavier than its older brothers. Big enough to tackle all your cutting tasks throughout the day, and also being the perfect size for self-defense, the Spyderco Stretch 2 XL is made for everyone. While big, these knives are more than practical, with a super-strong lockback mechanism and easy one-hand opening due to its signature round thumb hole. Even with liners (this is not the lightweight model), the size to weight ratio on the Stretch 2 XL is fantastic. Solid size proportions and a four-position pocket clip make this new-for-2022 knife by Spyderco one of the most reliable everyday carry’s out there. While the Stretch may not be the most well-known model that the Earth-based company has to offer, maybe it should be, as they are made with high-grade materials and just make sense as a daily user.

This Spyderco Stretch 2 XL , new for December 2022, has been upgraded supremely from the standard FRN/VG-10 models. Still featuring the beloved Stretch 2 XL elongated blade shape, this guy comes equipped with CPM CruWear, a high-carbon, high-performance steel similar to D2, but with higher toughness and better corrosion resistant. Additionally, CruWear is known to be a bit easier to sharpen than some other stainless steels. Paired with the CruWear drop point blade, this model Stretch 2 XL also has cool gray G-10 handle scales, a color Spyderco is known to use on some of their best model upgrades. If you saw the Massad Ayoob, this Stretch 2 XL model is, in my (Nate) opinion, the more normal and carriable version of that crazy knife. The four-position pocket clip and hardware on this knife is finished stainless.
