Spyderco – the thumb hole company – has been around since the 70’s, and while they were originally known for their impressive and widely-loved Tri-Angle Sharpmaker, the Colorado-based company now produces a wide range of unique and dependable knives that you’ll love to carry every day. Since their first folding knife, the C01 Worker, in 1981, Spyderco has defined innovation in the knife industry, paving the way for new concepts with many of their models over the years. From using high-grade (and often hard to find on the mainstream market) materials, Spyderco is beloved by many. Many of their models have an odd design at first sight, but their differences are what make them such a powerful and reliable daily carry. Nearly every one of the Spyderco models that has come through Sawyer River has impressed us and met the checklist as an EDC knife. The US-based company produces high-grade pocket knives un the USA, Japan, Taiwan, Italy, and China, surely having a model that will fit both your style as well as your budget. Spyderco is one of our biggest knife brands here at SRKT – when it comes to selection – so if there is something you are looking for that is not on the website, send us an email, as we may have it in person, but not on the website yet.
Kevin Smock is one of the most world-renowned award winning custom knife designers in the world, and his Spyderco Smock design is a gorgeous and fun-to-use production folder based on his SK23 custom knives. The Smock can be opened a few different ways, as it features Spydercos signature round thumb hole, an understated flipper tab that’s surprisingly easy to use, and a button lock that allows you to drop the blade from its closed position. Speaking of blade, the CPM S30V stainless steel, with a significant hollow grind, is a beast and is suitable for all of the cutting tasks you may come across. With a unique blade shape that resembles all of Wharncliffe, sheepsfoot, and reverse tanto, you’re unlikely to find a model similar to this one, with all of the high-quality materials that comes with owning a Spyderco Smock. The stainless steel liners are covered by skeletonized carbon fiber & G-10 laminate scales, with an open-back design giving this knife an even more manageable weight. With a reversible tip-up pocket clip, the Smock makes for a great EDC for righties and lefties alike. The button release worked with its high-strength compression lock make this model by Spyderco even more unique, and giving you even more fidget-options. One of our favorite 3rd-party designed Spydercos, the Smock is one of those knives you’ll be proud to own and carry.
