The On Belay by Medford is big. Without sacrificing too much pocket space, as they are surprisingly thin considering their overall size. One of the most “carry-able” pocket knives over 9” long, the On Belay comes equipped with a fully-titanium handle with a super-strong frame lock mechanism. The overgrown thumb hole in the blade makes these guys easy to use throughout the day and make it even more of a joy to carry. The On Belay also comes with an inconspicuous flipper tab that may not have the smoothest action out of the factory, but with plenty of use and love, they loosen right up and you’ll have a 9” flipper knife on your hands. Update: this specific knife actually has a solidly smooth flipper action. Details surely come into play with the design of the On Belay, as they feature jimping on the flipper tab, and a perfectly placed finger groove in the face-side handle frame, just under the over-sized pivot. To give you more of a feeling of safety and versatility, these models by Medford come with a glass breaker with a built-in lanyard hole. Simply put: The Medford On Belay is awesome.

This Medford On Belay comes pretty standard other than its absolutely stunning face-side handle. The CPM S35VN blade is a plain tumbled satin with a hollow grind, while the clip-side of the handle is also tumbled and all hardware is standard tumbled, including it’s tip-up pocket clip. The aforementioned face-side of the handle comes faced and flamed with a Starry Night pattern, giving this model On Belay just the right amount of flair without looking like a mall ninja knife.
